Definition: A "speaking-voice" file is a digital audio file which contains spoken words only, not music or sound effects or any other other non-verbal content.
A speaking-voice file may be produced either by recording an actual person speaking into a recorder, or by using text-to-speech (TTS) software to convert written text into audible speech, or possibly by some other means, the result of which is to obtain a digital audio file which contains spoken words only, not music or sound effects or any other non-verbal content.
I am creating this definition today, in the Public Interest, in order to distinguish speaking-voice files from other kinds of digital audio files which contain mainly music. So "speaking-voice" MP3 files can easily be recognized as different from other kinds of MP3 files, which today contain mainly music.
If music or sound effects are added to a speaking-voice file, it is no longer a speaking-voice file, by this definition, but something else.
It is my intention that the term "speaking-voice" be free for all people to use, according to this definition. It is my intention that the term "speaking-voice" not be monopolized or restricted in any other way; in particular, that nobody should try to claim a trademark on it. If anyone is entitled to claim such a trademark, it would be myself; and I am specifically not claiming it, because I want it to be free and open for everyone to use.
